Monkey 1st Birthday

This post is very late but as my multitasking mind takes over I am now on my 3rd different thing that I’m doing on the computer besides what I sat down to do.

When planning his birthday party and theme I went with a general monkey theme.  We don’t watch a lot of TV and really it’s hard to tell what a 1 year old in really ‘into’.  My cousin Beth with Beth Kruse Custom Creations designed my party printables.  I normally do this kind of thing on my own but there were just too many things going on in our lives at the time for me to add 1 more thing to my plate.  She has fabulous parties so I knew I was outsourcing to someone great!

The invitation

Welcome sign
I scoured Pinterest for food inspiration and was pretty pleased with what I found.

I thought this popcorn was really good.  I have a sweet tooth so it was a great treat!
You can’t have a monkey party without mokney bread 🙂  We were doing a cupcake cake as the cake so I also needed to do something in little cups so I could use the topper printables from Beth.

Safari Fruit
Just a regular old fruit and cheese tray.
Monkey Sandwiches
I saw a few different versions of this, some included Nutella but I just did the Vanilla Wafers with peanut butter and sliced banana.
Monkey Tails
White chocolate covered pretzel rods with sprinkles.  I love the sweet and salty combination of these.

I picked up random blue, yellow and brown candy at Party City to fill the boxes with.
I found the hat and shirt on Etsy and for the life of me can’t find the link to the shop that did them.  There were a few that did them like this.  Of course he wouldn’t wear the hat!  I was a little nervous about the shirt though.  I ordered a size larger than he was based off of their sizing recommendations and then it shrunk in the dryer.  It just fit him thank goodness.

The cake is from Creative Cakes and they are great.  When we went in to order my husband saw a wedding cupcake tower and decided we should get cupcakes.  Ok, I didn’t really care.  I had the invitation so they could figure out something to do based off of that and they copied the invitation onto a cupcake cake.  It was great!
For the smash cake they did a different kind of frosting, I don’t know what but it had less ingredients that could be potential allergens since kids that age typically haven’t been exposed to some of those.  That was nice that they suggested that because it wasn’t something I’d thought of.

At first he didn’t really know what to do with the cake.  We had to show him what to do and then he dug in a little.  He’s not a messy eater so this is about as bad as it got.

Beth did the chalkboard sign too.

Stitch Fix

It’s been over a year since my last ‘Fix’ and I decided to give it another try.  Ever since JP was born I haven’t really bought many clothes for myself.  Some of my old clothes still fit and some don’t but a big problem is that I have completely different needs.  Now that I am an at home mommy all of my cute business casual outfits don’t get much use (at all!!) and it turns out I didn’t have much for everyday casual.

I really don’t enjoy shopping.  I think it is partially because I have a hard time finding things that will fit right, I am not a large person but on the taller side and typically smaller sizes just aren’t long enough.  I’ll take 10 things into a fitting room and maybe 1 will fit right.  It’s frustrating.

I really love shopping online because it give me time to do things I want to do instead of need to do.  I’ve eluded in previous posts about the products we use in our home and I get them from an online wellness .com store so again…more things delivered to my door, I love it (and it saves money!).

On to my fix.  Allison was my stylist and for the most part this Fix was great.  I requested color and everyday casual things that still made me look ‘put together’.  I also mentioned my issue with finding tops long enough in the arms and torso and the things she sent had a longer style.

Beau Fringe Infinity Scarf

I don’t have a scarf this color or texture so it’s a keeper.

Aleah V-Neck Heathered Dolman Sleeve Shirt

In a previous Fix I got a black shirt just like this and I love it.  It has a different label but feels and looks the same.  It’s long enough that I can wear it with leggings and have my back side covered.  Leggings are not pants!!  It’s also easy to accessorize with jewelry or a scarf.  Another keeper!

Braddon Airy Knit V-Neck Sweater

If I were at a store I probably wouldn’t have tried this on.  That’s one of the things I like about Stitch Fix is it helps you expand your style.  I like it but the fit just wasn’t right.  It was a little baggy and the sleeves were an odd length.  They were too short but not short enough to look like 3/4 sleeves.  It’s a no for me.

Lizzy Colorblock Striped Sweater

This is another keeper.  This is my style, easy and casual but still cute (at least I think so!).  The fit is also good and long enough.  The only thing I’m not crazy about is the price.  It’s a little expensive but I am still going to keep it.  Finding things that fit well isn’t easy so when I find it sometimes I just have to roll with it.

Natoma Ikat Embroidery Crossbody Bag

This bag is just not my style.  I’m not trying to offend anyone because there are probably plenty of people who don’t like the things I did above but this bag is a big NO for me.
If you didn’t already know there is a Facebook group called Stitch Fix B/S/T and Discussion.  People post themselves in their new items and if there is something you got that you didn’t like there are lots of people that will likely buy it that way you can keep everything and get your discount.  I’ve heard that even if you rate the items when you checkout with your honest opinion it still can be misleading for future picks because you kept the item.

If you are new to Stitch Fix and want to give it a try they have a great referral program.  Here is my referral link if you decide to give it a try!
